The leading authority on vintage reclaimed lighting from the 20th century.

Husband and wife team Chris and Sophie Miller of Skinflint design scour the four corners of the globe, in their quest to salvage classic and rare light fixtures of the 20th century, predominantly from 1900-1960.

Skinflint’s success can be attributed to Chris and Sophie’s passion for the environment and their respective backgrounds.

“Skinflint was born of a mutual passion for the environment and our love of beautiful objects,” says Sophie, “Chris’s background as a lighting designer and mine as an Art-Director for commercials and pop promos made working with salvaged lighting a natural progression for us both.”

“In an age of imports and mass production, it’s great to know that by reusing existing items, we’re not placing any additional burden on material and mineral resources,” adds Chris, “And these timeless products each have their own story to tell, and their own place in the history of design.”

Form ever follows function, which feeds Chris and Sophie’s fascination with design aesthetics and the history of the objects they discover.

Skinflint’s ethos is clear; design and production from the mid-20thcentury is as fresh and modern today as when it was first conceived, making it ideal for both contemporary and period interiors.

“Designs from the 1920s-60’s were based around performance,” explains Chris, “We’re drawn to the well-engineered design of the products from this time. These lights were made in a period where the term ‘planned obsolescence’ did not exist. The fact they’re still in existence nearly 100 years later is testament to their quality. Good design will always stand the test of time, as well as the rigours of its intended purpose.”

Chris and Sophie are dedicated to transforming spaces with elegant vintage style, personally curating skinflint’s ever-evolving catalogue of lights.

From their workshop on the south coast of Cornwall, the Skinflint team sensitively restores each salvaged light fixture, bringing them in line with modern safety and environmental standards while retaining their individual character.
